Tanja Bauer-Roike: your expert for legally sound translations
With more than 20 years of experience translating legal texts, I am the partner you are looking for. Whether contracts, deeds or pleadings – your documents are in safe hands.
I personally handle every enquiry and assignment you entrust to me.
Since early 2000, I have been a publicly appointed and sworn translator of the English language, authorised by a German regional court to provide certified translations for official use. Upon request, I provide every translation as a certified translation – for submission to courts, authorities, or any other official body.
What you can expect from me:
- Legal validity: As a publicly appointed and sworn translator, I guarantee that my certified translations meet all formal requirements. You do not need to worry about the legal validity of your documents.
- Subject-matter expertise: Contracts, deeds, pleadings, due diligence documents and more – I am well versed in the terminology of corporate law, contract law, M&A, private equity and other areas of law, and ensure consistency of defined terms throughout every document.
- Confidentiality and modern technology: Even when using the latest tools, I maintain strict confidentiality without exception and am committed to the highest standards of discretion. Your data is safe with me.
- Smooth handling: From the initial enquiry to delivery, I follow a structured and clear approach with no unnecessary back-and-forth. So you can focus on your work.
- Reliability: I deliver on time, in full and to the standard you would expect from a specialist translator. And sometimes a little more than that.

Why hire a professional when AI exists?
Why hire a professional when AI exists?
AI-based technologies are on everyone’s lips – and rightly so. They have become an integral part of our lives, helping us understand texts even in languages we do not speak ourselves. That said, there are good reasons not to rely exclusively on such tools for legal translations. Here are some key points to consider:
- Context: Thanks to their powerful databases, AI-based systems can translate enormous volumes of text at remarkable speed. However, they do not always take into account the context in which individual words or phrases are used. Should it be shareholder or partner? Aktionär or Gesellschafter?
- Terminology: Legal texts often contain highly specific terminology for which there may be no direct equivalent in the target language. I research the meaning of the legal concept and find the most appropriate solution. What do AI-based systems do in such cases? Hallucinate?
- Consistency: In legal texts, it is essential that defined terms are always translated the same way without switching to synonyms. AI-based systems calculate probabilities, which means a term may be translated one way in one sentence and differently in the next. Such inconsistencies may go undetected and lead to misunderstandings.
- Liability: I hold professional indemnity insurance that covers damages arising from translation errors. But who is liable when AI-based systems are used exclusively? The provider of the tool? Your own employees? You personally?
- Confidentiality: Legal texts often contain sensitive and confidential information that must not fall into the wrong hands. I take confidentiality seriously. Among other things, I am bound by the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), any non-disclosure agreements we may have in place, and the code of conduct of my professional association. AI providers themselves warn against uploading confidential or personal data to their systems.
