From language enthusiast to legal translator
Foreign languages have fascinated me since I was a small child. Growing up in the former GDR (East Germany), Russian was naturally the first foreign language I encountered. I was struck by how people with different native languages could communicate with one another. By the time I started learning English as my second foreign language, I knew I wanted to do “something with languages” later in life. I wanted to help people understand each other and communicate – even when they do not speak the same language, or only to a limited degree.
Shortly before my school-leaving exams, I discovered the profession of translator, and ended up in Bavaria after graduating. I completed formal training as a translator in English, with special studies in economics and law, and passed the Bavarian state examination, a formal qualification for professional translators in Germany. I am a publicly appointed and sworn translator for English, authorised by a German regional court to provide certified translations for official use.
Since 2007, I have worked as a freelance legal translator in the greater Munich area. I am based in Schwabhausen, a small village near Dachau, not far from Munich, Augsburg or Freising.
Continuous professional development, a healthy dose of curiosity, a willingness to research, and close collaboration with my clients help me stay on top of developments in my field.
In addition to my work as a translator, I have volunteered in various roles for my professional association, the BDÜ, for many years.

Networks are essential to me as a legal translator. From the very beginning of my career, I have been active in various networks and associations.
I am a member of BDÜ e. V., Germany’s largest professional association for interpreters and translators. Being a member of a professional association comes with high standards and specific qualifications, ensuring a high degree of professionalism. I am also a member of VGSD e. V., a German association for new entrepreneurs and the self-employed.
